Description: Paul Sormani (1817C1877) was a leading bniste of the Second Empire, renowned for his Louis XV and Louis XVI style furnishings enriched with lacquer panels and fine gilt-bronze mounts. The cabinet of rectangular form with a brche d'Alep marble top above a pair of lacquered panel doors finely decorated with chinoiserie landscapes in gilt on vibrant red ground, enclosing shelves, over a single frieze drawer and tambour front; mounted with finely cast gilt-bronze appliqus, signed P. SORMANI / 10 Rue Charlot / Paris on the interior mount.
