On March 18, 2015, fulfilling his wishes, Christie's New York held the landmark auctionThe Collection of Robert Hatfield Ellsworth. With over 2, 000 lots, it was one of the most significant Asian art auctions in history, featuring bronzes, sculptures, furniture, ceramics, and jade. The total from the first session alone reached USD 60.38 million, with a set of four 17th-century Huanghuali armchairs selling for USD 9, 685, 000 (incl. premium).
