The True First Edition (German language) of Das Unbehagen in der Kultur, published in Vienna in 1930 by the Internationaler Psychoanalytischer Verlag. The volume is typically bound in the publisher's bright yellow cloth (Gelbes Leinen) with bold black typography on the spine and cover, a distinctive design of the Viennese psychoanalytic press. Unlike the later American translation (Civilization and Its Discontents), this early German issue represents the text exactly as Freud wrote it, prior to any linguistic filtering. A copy bearing a signature in the yellow cloth, especially one retaining its dust jacket, is a collector's item of the highest order.
